Computer rooms

PXE

Computer rooms located at Villejuif or Le Kremlin-Bicêtre are available at any time - day and night. Other computer rooms may have specific schedule depending on their location.

Computers startup is handled by a technology called PXE (Preboot Execution Environment) which makes use of the network to find the operating system. On each startup, a menu is displayed allowing you to choose an “image” based on your needs. The primary image is NixOS PIE used by ING1 students while prepa students use NixOS Prepa. NixOS images evolve through the year to allow students to realize projects.

info

The images are loaded in the memory. Which means that the entirety of the modifications made outside the AFS folders are lost on reboot.

Student session

Each student can use his Forge Account to connect to a computer on the network.

  1. Turn on a computer if it is not already on
  2. In the first menu, pick the desired image entry (By default, the last image will be loaded). This image is intended for use by first year students of the main curriculum at EPITA.
  3. Wait for the computer to start up
  4. Select i3 as session (XFCE is also available on some images that require an easier to use interface)
  5. Select keyboard layout ( fr: AZERTY, us: QWERTY US, uk: QWERTY UK ).
  6. Enter your Forge credentials
note

When you log on for the first time, you'll be asked to choose your Mod key: Alt or Windows. This is the key you will use for shortcuts on the PIE. If in doubt, choose Windows.

Student can then access their personal storage stocked on AFS. It is essential to read this topic.
